2. How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success? Do you have a “favourite failure” of yours?
Never having things come easy and always having to work for my achievements and experiences has made me never take anything for granted. No-one likes to fail but accepting that you will prepares you for when it happens. Setbacks are part of all of our journeys.
3. In the last five years, what new belief, behaviour, or habit has most improved your life?
“remember the small things because one day you will realise these are the big things”
“never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life”
4. If you could give one piece of advice to an aspiring young coach, what would that advice be?
Learn from those around you – talk to people and ask questions – they might just teach you something you didn’t know before
5. What bad advice do you hear most from your area of expertise?
“Evidence based practice”
Of course, ensuring what we do, and how we do it is underpinned by good psychology and working principles. But often the nice clear lines from evidence to practice do not exist, the reverse can sometimes be very useful…practice-based evidence.
6. Who, in your life, has inspired you most? (and why)
My Mam…through her selflessness, generosity and care for others.
7. How would you best define a coach?
Someone you can trust, learn from, seek advice off, gain energy, motivation and support form. Someone with a purposeful vision and a plan to generate a desired outcome. An individual who is trained, equipped and committed to helping others on their journey to be better.
8. What do you do for your own CPD?
Network outside of football in other sports and across multiple disciplines.
